On a plain down to the sea, there is one of the most beautiful cities of Sicily, Agrigento.
Near the sea lies the Valley of the Temples, World Heritage umana, important testimony of classical Greek civilization. Seven are the sacred places whose remains can be admired in the place. Among these, the Temple of Hera, with rectangular plant on which they are 34 columns, the Temple of Concordia, in excellent condition, and the Temple of Castor and Pollux.
Constructed of tuff rock - Temple - watched from afar, painted the color of the sunset, creating a surreal atmosphere.
On the hill facing the Valley of the Temples, there is Città Magnificent, modern Agrigento, one casket of art treasures.
The jewels in the old city are the Norman Cathedral with its impressive bell tower, perched on the hill, and the Monastery of "Santo Spirito" near the church with the same name.
Via Athena is the main street of Agrigento, begins with the "Porta di Ponte" remaking of the medieval entrance. On this street is the Palazzo Celauro where Goethe lived. The old town has a medieval structure with narrow streets and stairs rising on steep hillsides.
From the most modern Viale della Vittoria, sitting in a bar in the shade of the fig trees, you can admire a splendid view of the Valley of the Temples. In the "Contrada San Nicola" is the Regional Museum of Archaeology, which tells the story of ancient Agrigento, from prehistory to the phase of Hellenization. Not far from Agrigento, is the birthplace of the Nobel Prize writer Luigi Pirandello, now converted into an interesting museum.
