Places in Agrigento

On a plain down to the sea, there is one of the most beautiful cities of Sicily, Agrigento.
Near the sea lies the Valley of the Temples, World Heritage umana, important testimony of classical Greek civilization. Seven are the sacred places whose remains can be admired in the place. Among these, the Temple of Hera, with rectangular plant on which they are 34 columns, the Temple of Concordia, in excellent condition, and the Temple of Castor and Pollux.
Constructed of tuff rock - Temple - watched from afar, painted the color of the sunset, creating a surreal atmosphere.
On the hill facing the Valley of the Temples, there is Città Magnificent, modern Agrigento, one casket of art treasures.
The jewels in the old city are the Norman Cathedral with its impressive bell tower, perched on the hill, and the Monastery of "Santo Spirito" near the church with the same name.
Via Athena is the main street of Agrigento, begins with the "Porta di Ponte" remaking of the medieval entrance. On this street is the Palazzo Celauro where Goethe lived. The old town has a medieval structure with narrow streets and stairs rising on steep hillsides.
From the most modern Viale della Vittoria, sitting in a bar in the shade of the fig trees, you can admire a splendid view of the Valley of the Temples. In the "Contrada San Nicola" is the Regional Museum of Archaeology, which tells the story of ancient Agrigento, from prehistory to the phase of Hellenization. Not far from Agrigento, is the birthplace of the Nobel Prize writer Luigi Pirandello, now converted into an interesting museum.

Soon to be renamed Villa Pirandello was an ideal choice as a base from which to explore the south coast of Sicily (and more, if we had the time). The warm welcome, lovely refurbished room overlooking the sunny terrace, delicious breakfast in the garden pavilion (become the Locanda di Terra slow food restaurant at night, also excellent) and how they were aided and care all contributed to make this a perfect holiday. We had problems with the car and wanted recommendations for places to eat and our host was brilliantly solved. We particularly loved the Fiat 500, for a tourist trip to the temples and the old city in the evening, the town itself with its orange and jasmine blossoms and its location (near the station, via Athena / Vittoria for shops, bars and restaurants). Also need and appreciate the wi-fi. It's a shame to stay only 1 or 2 nights. This peaceful haven is convenient and good value for money - the perfect place to recover from a day of sightseeing or beach.

Everything starts with an email that you send Alfonso status prompt how to get to their B & B that speaks of kindness and dedication with which we have tried, we got a glass of wine and cookies and some maps giving us directions to go in this beautiful city . The place could not be more welcoming, clean and simpatico, breakfast with homemade products all incredible, and the possibility of free parking in the same cudra hotel great, close to everything and the rooms with sea view and Archaeological Park . recommended 100%

Sicily Island

Sicily is a region of the Italian island, which is the fourth European island by dimensions. This is the main Italian island and the largest in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, there are several smaller islands: the islands of the Aeolian Islands to the northeast, west Egadi Islands, the Pelagie Islands in the southwest, and south islands of Pantelleria and Ustica northwest. It is the largest region of Italy (25,711 km ²) 1 and its largest island.

Its principal Palermo and is inhabited by more than five million people: this makes it, despite its large size, the most densely populated island in the Mediterranean after Malta. It is the only Italian region which has two cities among the ten most populous Palermo, fifth, and Catania, tenth. It is one of the most important tourist centers in Europe and in the eighteenth century was the last stage of the Grand Tour, the journey that young European aristocrats, largely British, carried out in Europe - many in Italy - to hone their education and spiritual formation.
